Saturday June 26 @ Varsity Theatre
Hosted by: Chris Bradley, John Cullen, P.J. Pokorney, Eric Carnegie, Blaine Rabalais, and Derek Fitch
After months of preparation DJ Triz-A finally releases his F.A.M.E. mixtape at the Varsity Theatre. Hear the latest music that’s rocking the Varsity stage and all over Baton Rouge by your favorite DJ. Free CD’s will be handed out at the door and throughout the night. Helping put on the ultimate show for all those in attendance, DJ Triz-A performs a 4-turntable set with DJ Amadeo.
Also for your entertainment, experience art in its purest form as local artists from the Tiger District art series ‘Stabbed in the Art’ paint live on an elevated stage in the middle of the second level of the theatre. Hannah Lane, Alex Harvie, TJ Black, and Marc Fresh face off against each other as the paintings are created in front of your eyes. Check out the video below to catch a peek of what the last art battle was like.

*************PALO VIEJO**************
Somewhere between indie and pop, between the traditional and progressive falls the Latin alternative group Palo Viejo. Playing a unique and eclectic style of music, Palo Viejo collides several traditionally separate genres to create something new and fresh. With songs that could be described as anything from ska-rengue to salsa-rock, Palo Viejo is forging new territory in the Latin music genre while at the same time remaining dedicated to making great music. The musical influences of the band are wide ranging, including The Police, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Juan Luis Guerra, and Soda Stereo, among others.
Palo Viejo is continuing to garner positive reviews and feedback from industry insiders and general public alike. Palo Viejo performed to rave reviews at the Latin Alternative Music Conference in New York. ¡Boom!, a nationally published magazine devoted to alternative Latin music, described Palo Viejo as the “sound you can’t describe but you know you dig it”. Editor of ¡Boom!, Kike Posada, proclaims,” …the show that Palo Viejo gave at SOB’s. The collective of musicians…including their singer Angelina Lopez from the Dominican Republic, blew my mind…what force and energy!” Another national publication, Batanga Magazine, calls Palo Viejo “…an eclectic and fresh combination of Caribbean, ska, and rock…a textured and dynamic groove.” Palo Viejo’s debut album, ‘Estás Aquí Ahora’, also garnered honors by being selected as one of the Best New Releases of the year by the listeners of Batanga.com. The bilingual newspaper ‘Vocero News of New Orleans, stated simply “…this band is the best latin sound in this area…”
